Dong Da used to be an ancient land of Thang Long Citadel. The name Dong Da is also associated with the glorious victory of the cloth hero Quang Trung - Nguyen Hue with the famous Ngoc Hoi - Dong Da victory when he defeated 290,000 invading Qing troops in 1789.
When the Communist Party of Vietnam was born, Dong Da quickly became one of the areas where the revolutionary movement was boiling. A revolutionary place with a strong historical mark in the district is Lang Fortress, where the first shot was fired, opening the days of "death for the Fatherland, life and death" against French colonialism.
When peace was restored, Dong Da, together with the capital Hanoi, promoted economic recovery; implemented State plans in the direction of both production and fighting against the destructive war of the American imperialists with the formation of Thuong Dinh industrial park, Hanoi Mechanical Factory... This was the first place in Hanoi to have a new industrial park. And it was also one of the bases for the Central Party Politburo and Uncle Ho to approve the planning of the capital.
